bass note jumping

I gotta have more bass…

I have a new tutorial for you here for adding bass notes.

I used to play bass note jumping with down strokes mainly.

But now I experimented with down-up patterns and it works really nicely. And it’s faster, maybe even better?

Check out the OLD video here.

See, even I’m still learning things. Learning is what keeps you young, don’t you think? Keep pushing yourself and you will keep growing.

There is a story I keep thinking about this 80 year old cellist. He keeps practising daily, and someone asks him, “why do you keep practising so much?”. “Because I’m making progress”, he says.

I’m still working on my Oud playing. We all are. We are all in this together.

Check out my new video below:

If you’re not applying these techniques to your Oud playing, then you’re missing out on a lot of fun.

You might be missing out on ways you can grow with the Oud.

I might be able to help you with that…

Back to my roots…

These days I find myself going back to Persian music. This is the first music I learned.

I’m trying to break down my own barriers.

One of my limitations in Persian music is that I never really took time to learn Persian poem and song.

So I’m working on that now.

I’m learning the poetry of songs I have always enjoyed listening to and practising singing them while playing the Oud.

I’ve never done this before, but I’ve always wanted to do this one day.

The truth is, I should have started yesterday.

And by yesterday I mean… years ago.

Don’t let the years fly by. Take what little time you have now and try to learn something new.

If I started back then, I might be somewhere else now in my musical journey.

What can you start today that will get you somewhere in five years?

I hope to hear your Oud playing some day.
