Finding time to learn maqams can be challenging and difficult. Who’s got time to learn all these maqams?

You’ve got a family to feed, the kids to play with, work all day, and bills to pay.

It’s impossible to learn all these maqams.

Or is it?

Let me tell you about my own experience learning maqams.

Before attending the Simon Shaheen’s Arabic Music Retreat I never really GOT Maqam Lami.

There weren’t even that many tunes in Maqam Lami to really care much anyway.

But after attending just one session with Simon Shaheen, it all started to click.

I couldn’t believe it, Maqam Lami clicked!

And all it took was 90 minutes…

It felt like a whole new world opened up and I was transported into it. Not only could I recognize Maqam Lami when I heard it, but I was even starting to write melodies with this Maqam.

How did he do it?

What was so special about the training I received at the Arabic Music Retreat?

It’s not rocket science, anyone can do it.

And, you can be a total beginner.

The best thing is, you don’t need a lot of time.

You too will:

  • learn how to use my #1 recommended tool for learning music by ear
  • learn why theory books don’t work for learning maqams
  • learn the quickest way to learn a new maqam

In the next few posts, you’re going to learn the common mistakes people make when trying to learn maqams, and I’m going to show you a more natural and organic way to learn maqams regardless of your current ability.

Soon you too will become a conduit that middle eastern music will flow through.

Stay tuned on Wednesday, as another email will be coming your way.

But before I let you go… Can you tell me about your own experience learning maqams? What helped you the most? When did you get that “clicking” moment?
