Persian Oud

There are not that many tutorials out there teaching Persian Oud style. However, the Oud has become rather popular in the last 20 years in Iran. There are a lot of great young Oud players in Iran nowadays.

One classic album is “Koohestan” by Hossein Behroozinia with whom I studied Oud with. One famous piece from this album is the fiery Aziz Joon, the title of the piece on the album is “Seda Kon”. I’m not sure why. I remember having a conversation about this with Mr. Behroozinia but I can’t remember why the discrepancy.

Anyway, here is his arrangement for Aziz Joon.

As part of the new and updated Oud Foundation Program, I really wanted to add tunes from different cultures and repertoire to give the you a well-rounded experience and opportunity to apply different techniques and learn different styles.

I applied a more minimalist, intermediate technique to this tune which helps you develop a very powerful, and versatile right-hand stroke pattern.

You can learn this stroke pattern and some of this tune in the video below:

The whole tutorial will be available at the end of the month in the Oud Foundation Program Part III & IV.
