Are you ready to geek-out with me a bit tonight?

Hell yes!

Let’s get on with it!

My friend from Vancouver, Edward Powell, who lives in Europe now, studied Oud building with Faruk Turunz. He’s been building these wild instruments called Ragmaqam-Tar for over ten years now. They are double-necked instruments with one neck being a Sarod and the other being an Oud.

He recently posted a couple videos of his new creations, and I thought you’d find them very cool.

They are long videos, so I hope you are one of the few people left on planet earth who still has a decent attention span…

But these videos are cool, and the ideas about tonic and tonal center is very new to me because it draws from Indian music.

I hope you enjoy.

While you’re at it, join the facebook group he runs: https://www.facebook.com/groups/471096639625906/

Let me know how you liked his videos in the comments below. He’s a great instrumentalist and he knows the Turkish/Arabic Oud and Indian Sarod traditions exceptionally well.
