Anybody who knows me, knows that I’m a big fan of Ross Daly. I have a lot of respect and admiration for this guy.

I learned about Ross and his work around 2004-2005, and was instantly blown away by his music and work. He continues to be an inspiration for me today.

I’ll never forget having emailed him (back when myspace was popular) and inquired about one of his works, “Exorise me i moira mou”. I was so surprised with his copious, and generous reply. I simply asked what this piece was about, and the lyrics, but he shared so much in that email alone.

His vision, and the philosophy behind the man is rather enlightened and spiritual in nature.

Recently, I became more inspired to learn more about his work and his life and I stumbled upon a documentary which I think you would enjoy.

You might find something familiar about him in yourself, especially if you’re an ‘outsider’ to the middle eastern world. And that’s what I would like you to watch out for.

It will help you with your study of the Old and middle eastern music, especially when getting your mind around maqams and improvisation. He makes some great points about this which are NEVER EVER touched upon when you study music in a middle eastern environment.

These ideas will help you, and they could not be communicated in a more effective way than by watching this documentary.

If you have any thoughts about the documentary, I would love to hear from you.

Ear Training Update

I am making progress on the updates to the Ear Training Program.

So far I have composed two modules in Maqam Husseini and Maqam Nawa. My aim is to compose at least 3 modules per week to be ready to record them by the end of February so that everything is ready at the beginning of March.

The new Ear Training Program is launching sometime in mid-March.

More updates coming soon.
